Community Funding

We have two community funding schemes to support the development of projects across Shepway

Ward Budgets 

The ward budget scheme is currently closed to applications. It is scheduled to to open again late Spring 2017.

Each of the 30 Shepway Councillors are allocated a 'ward budget' of up to £1,500 to spend on community projects in their ward.

Community organisations that are located in Shepway, or have a strong connection with the area, can apply for the ward budget.
These include:

  • Town and parish councils with a community tax of less than £21,000 a year
  • Community interest companies
  • Registered charities
  • Community and voluntary groups

Community groups can contact their ward councillor to apply for this funding.

Community Chest 

The Community Chest scheme is now closed.  It is scheduled to reopen in spring/early summer 2017.

Please email communitydevelopment@shepway.gov.uk to register to be notified when the scheme reopens.

The community chest is a funding scheme that allocates grants to community groups and charities delivering projects for the benefit of Shepway residents.

Projects must not start before the grant has been awarded and the grant must be claimed within 12 months.
The grant and the funding is paid retrospectively (ie. evidence of the expenditure must be provided in order to claim the grant).
