Arrange collection of your large unwanted household items
Arrange a collection of your large unwanted items directly from your home
You'll need to book and pay in advance to have any bulky waste collected.
This service is not available for businesses or commercial properties, if you require a collection please contact a private waste contractor.
Alternatively you can call the Customer Services Team to book and pay:
Telephone: 01303 858 660
The Civic Centre is open from 8:30 and closes at 17.00 Monday to Friday (Wednesdays from 9.30)
Alternatively, you can take your bulky waste to a council tip - it won't cost you anything.
What we collect
The council can collect the following items:
- white goods, eg fridges, freezers and washing machines
- furniture, including bed frames and mattresses
- TVs and small electrical items, eg DVD players, toasters and kettles
All bulky items must be 1.8 metres (6 feet) long or less. The bulky item should be able to be lifted by 2 people.
How much it costs
It costs £23.95 to get rid of your first large unwanted item, thereafter it is £6 per item up to 5 items per pick up.
You must leave items outside your property by 7am ready for the pickup. If it is not there and visible for the contractor at the time of collection a refund will not be given.
If you need to cancel you must give us 24 hours notice of your pre-arranged collection date to receive a full refund.
What we don't collect
The council does not collect:
- garden waste - find out how to join Shepway's garden waste scheme
- rubble, wood, building materials or black sacks of rubbish
- solid metals, including cast iron and baths
- glass, including mirrors
- sinks made of ceramic or metal
Where you will leave the items
You must leave them outside your property either on your drive or front garden if you have one. If you haven't either of these and are unsure where to leave contact us to discuss the most suitable area.
Unfortunately they can not be left on the path or road.
If you can't get the item outside of your property, we can collect them but only with your written consent via our permission form. Please let us know so we can send the form out to you.
