Traffic Regulation Orders

A Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) is the legal document required to support a range of measures, which govern or restrict the use of public roads

What is a Traffic Regulation Order?

All parking restrictions are written into a legal document called a Traffic Regulation Order (TRO).

These orders contain the full details of every length of yellow line, parking bay and residents' parking scheme in the district.

Princes Parade consultation

In July, Shepway Council's Cabinet resolved to carry out a consultation about the possible introduction of pay and display parking along the whole length of Princes Parade , on the side closest to the sea.

The proposal is for the pay and display scheme to be in place from 1 April to 30 September (both dates inclusive) between 8.00am and 6.00pm on every day of the week.

This decision was taken to help manage the supply of parking on Princes Parade so more people can park and use the beach.

Sandgate controlled parking zone (CPZ) proposed extension

This Traffic Order proposes to extend the Sandgate East Parking Zone (Zone S).

The proposed scheme includes waiting restrictions in areas where parked vehicles would cause danger or obstruct other motorists or pedestrians using the highway. Within the zone, local people are eligible to buy permits giving them greater priority when parking in the area. Parking for non-permit holders is available in some of the roads, but limited to a maximum stay of 2 hours, and is free of charge.

The proposals will assist to address the concerns of local people and should reduce the incidence of commuter parking, enabling residents to park closer to their homes.
