Bee Friendly

We've stopped mowing a large area of land at Hawkinge Cemetery in order to help attract bees and other pollinators.

The land around the graves is still mowed and walkways are still maintained.

Without bees and other small but vital pollinators, plants, fruit and other crops wouldn't produce seeds and a lot of the food we eat wouldn't grow.

That's why the council unanimously adopted a policy of promoting pollinator-friendly planting and maintenance in 2015.

We've also planted 1,500 square feet of wild-flower turf in the Coastal Park.
