The annual canvass

We aim to check registration details with you every year to ensure you can vote at national, regional and local elections

What is the annual canvass?

Each year the Electoral Registration Officer must conduct an annual canvass to ensure the electoral register is accurate and complete.

How does it work?

  • Every residential property is sent a pre-populated Household Enquiry Form detailing the electors that are currently on the electoral register at that property
  • You are required by law to confirm or change the details shown on the form

Key dates

  • The annual canvass begins on 1 July each year
  • Household Enquiry Forms are sent out around 10 August
  • The revised register is published by 1 December of that same year

Recently moved home?

Remember, if you have recently moved and registered for Council Tax your details will not be entered onto the electoral register. You have to make a separate application for your details to appear on the electoral register. The easiest way to do this is register online. If you do not have internet access please call us to register by telephone on 01303 853497.

What do I need to do?
